How it works
- Generate a personal access token in the Up app
- Paste the token into Sure
- Sure discovers your Up accounts and begins syncing balances and transactions
- Categories you have set in the Up app are mapped to your Sure categories on import
Setting up Up bank
- Open the Up app on your phone
- Go to Settings > API and create a personal access token
- In Sure, go to Settings > Bank sync, find the Up panel, and paste the token
- Link each discovered account to an existing Sure account or create a new one
Features
Account syncing
- Account listing: All Up accounts (spending and savers) with current balances
- Transaction history: Transactions are imported with date, amount, description, and category
- Deduplication: Transactions are matched by their Up transaction ID, so re-syncing never creates duplicates
Category mapping
When you import transactions from Up, Sure maps Up’s category slugs to your existing Sure categories automatically. This means transactions you have already tagged in the Up app arrive in Sure with the correct category applied — no manual re-categorisation needed. The mapping uses high-confidence matches only. Up categories that do not have a clear Sure equivalent (for example, Booze, Pets, Apps & Games, Life Admin, and Technology) are left uncategorised so you can apply your own rules or let the AI assistant categorise them. If you have already set or locked a category on a transaction in Sure, a re-sync will not overwrite it.Category mapping only applies to your existing Sure categories. If your family has no categories set up yet, transactions will arrive uncategorised until you create categories through the normal setup flow.
Limitations
- Australian accounts only
- Personal access tokens are scoped to a single Up account holder
- Data is read-only; Sure never writes anything back to Up
